Terry Cloth

From James Bond to Pablo Picasso to Emilio Pucci’s kaleidoscopic patterned caftans, terry cloth has held its ground as a summer wardrobe icon for decades. And for good reason, acting as the perfect transitional piece from water to land, beach to cocktails, pool to lunch—and, plus, who doesn’t want to wear their towel?! We’ve loved vintage versions for years, and are pleased to see so many modern iterations hitting the market. We’ve rounded up our favorites here perfect for summer dressing and beyond.

1. La Veste has been reimagining terry in the best way. We’re fans of everything they do, and especially love their towel dresses and fringed coverups. The shorts are particularly cute, too!

2. These high-waisted terry cloth shorts are the perfect thing to pull on when heading to lunch.

3.  These fringed shorts are the perfect mix of utilitarian and dressy. They also have adorable color combos.

4. An Alaia Terry Cloth Hoodie—a piece we never thought we’d see, with a price tag we hoped we wouldn’t, but too chic not to include.

5. This striped navy terrycloth set (Top and Shorts) is our ideal preppy summer uniform.

6.  Layer up your terry repertoire with this adorable terry cloth sailor shirt.

7. Something like ‘80s meets Balearic bohemia, this terry and crochet set are multi-functional pieces that can be worn all summer. (Top and Shorts)

8. We adore the seaside motifs embroidered into this terry dress—also available in shorts!

Navy with white piping is eternally chic, and this terry cloth coverup is no exception (and can easily be worn to cocktails after the beach!)

Leave it to Lisa Marie Fernandez to create the chicest terry cloth coverup that blurs the lines between beachwear and elegant minidress—also available in a longer version.

This terry shirt coverup is straight out of Thunderball.

A classic for a reason, this Polo Ralph Lauren terry mini dress is timeless.

Pucci in summertime is always a yes, and these shorts are coming with us everywhere, including apres beach! There’s also a dress in the same print!

Sometimes you just can’t beat a beach poncho, especially one in tomato-red.
