Elevated Flip Flops

The thwack of flip-flops are part of summer’s soundtrack. Plus they pack flat, can usually handle a little rain, and aerate your feet in the heat. While we love our Havaianas—which are amazingly durable year in and out—sometimes we want a more elevated version. These aren’t the flip-flops you slip on for beach days or market runs—they’re the chic pair you wear to drinks and dinner, especially if you’re not packing (god forbid) heels.

1. These puffy Carven flip-flops were the inspiration for this list!

2. A staple of Jackie O’s summer wardrobe and still handmade in Capri, the Janet by Canfora is culty for a reason. They come in many colorful leathers, and you can also customize the heel size. 

3. We love the ‘90s vibes of this square-toed pair with a rich brown suede strap.

4. These butterscotch suede thongs by Le Monde Beryl look incredibly comfortable. 

5. LA-based brand Ciao Lucia recently collaborated with iconic Tropezienne sandalmaker K.Jacques for a modern take on their classic thong in a cherry-red with a black sole.

6. Famed sandalmaker Rondini, also from Saint-Tropez, is known for their wide range of designs; we especially love their Sahariennes, which come in a variety of strap widths and colors. Editor’s note: I bought a pair in black earlier this summer! They’re so chic and really mold to the shape of your foot.—Clara

8. A practical option that also looks elevated, Tkees make great flip-flops that aren’t too pricey and can be worn from the beach to drinks, thanks to their water-resistant leather and rubber sole. We love both their thin strapped and wider strapped versions.

10. A way to do gladiator without the ankle straps: this black suede pair by A.Emery. 

11. We can’t fathom shelling out for a pair from The Row (not to mention that they’re all sold out anyway!), but this pair from J.Crew, a collab with Tkees, is just as cute, with even better colorways and an elegant grosgrain strap.
