Dear Yolo Travelers,
Welcome to the new yolojournal.com! I want to thank you for following along with us during this shift. I’m sorry for any confusion or annoyances around the migration—transitions are always challenging, no matter the circumstance.
Before anything else…
If you are a paid subscriber, you will need to set a password here on the new website to access all content. If you haven’t already, just head to this page and enter the same email address from which you receive your Substack newsletters, which will trigger an email asking you to set a new password. Your subscription and payment info have been carried over automatically, and once you set a password, you will be good to go.
If you are a free subscriber, you will automatically be added to our website’s email list. You’ll continue to receive our weekly newsletters, and will have access to free Bric-a-Brac stories. If you are interested in exploring more of our archives and accessing paid posts like our Black Books, we are offering free subscribers a one-time code for $20 off of an annual paid subscription. Just use YOLOUPGRADE at checkout (valid through July 15).
(If you have a complimentary subscription—hang tight! We are getting you set up in the system ASAP.)
This Saturday, July 6, our next Bric-a-Brac email—all things SPAIN!—will come not from Substack, but from yolojournal.com. Please keep an eye out for it! It might wind up in spam—and if it does, flag it as “not spam” so it can find its way to your primary inbox.
Now, once you’re set up on the site…
I hope you enjoy our new home! Our main goal was to make a site that is easier to navigate and to find the content you’re looking for when you need it. We also wanted it to be prettier and to be connected in look and feel to our magazine, so we brought over the font (called Prune after my dog) that was created for YOLO Journal by our friend Nobi Kashiwagi. Our great and patient friends at WordPress spent a year and a half with us planning and building this out, and we’re so grateful to them for creating functions that are essential to travel (like sorting by location!).
Now that the migration is complete, I want to point out one major difference between what you will see here and what we did on Substack. In our regular Saturday emails, you’ll get an intro and a summary of each article we’ve published that week with links to read them on the website, as well as some bonus content. Because Substack was one long scroll, we could only publish so much at once. But now we can do as much as we like, since we have more room and a lot to share, including some updated archival content. Do let us know if you have any thoughts, comments, or criticisms—this is for you—so we want to make sure you think it’s working!
And, of course, please reach out to us at info@yolojournal.com if you are confused about anything else that comes up.
Thanks and looking forward to traveling together!
XO Yolanda & Team YOLO
