In short… The Mark is a fancy (but not stuffy) dog-friendly uptown getaway that feels extremely neighborhood-y
The surroundings… Right off Madison Avenue on 77th street, The Mark Hotel is about 500-ft away from the park, which is really all you want when staying on the Upper East Side.
The vibe… Classic New York, from its location to its great black-and-white striped lacquered flooring in the lobby. We came for an overnight staycation away from Brooklyn, and felt like Upper East Side locals immediately–especially our dog Prune. They have the cutest The Mark-branded hot dog cart outside the front doors, elegantly elevating a New York classic, which is really what this hotel is all about. The staff are really welcoming, enthusiastic and kind, and truly care for you throughout your stay, making you feel at home, which for some is not so easy in a city like New York.

The rooms… Classic and not overly ornamented, the design was led by Jacques Grange, and they are the epitome of quiet luxury. With great views overlooking the city, the rooms feel quintessentially New York, almost as if you’re in your own UES apartment living your greatest Charlotte York fantasy.

The wellness… We spent more time in the park than in the gym, but we did have a private session with one of their excellent trainers. The hotel has a relationship with their neighbor around the corner, Barbara Sturm, and I had a facial there, but you can also have one in your room.
The food & drink… We splurged and had the most amazing and special meal at Caviar Kaspia at The Mark, which had just opened, and is their first restaurant in New York City. Given that it’s one of our favorite restaurants in Paris, we were super curious to see how it measured up, and it was great—very intimate, lovely low lighting, and the food did not disappoint. Nothing quite better than a generous bowl of pickles to start, and a caviar-filled potato before rolling next door and upstairs to your magnificently comfortable hotel room for bed!

Extra tip goes to…The dog treatment at The Mark is over the top! Prune was given the same 5-star service as we had. We were greeted in the room with an extremely sweet black-and-white striped dog bed, leash, collar and dog bags. She also had her own water and food bowl set-up, complete with a bottle of Evian. Safe to say at the end of the trip she was an extremely spoiled pup.

Be sure to… Get a hot dog at the stand and go for a sunset stroll in Central Park.
Parting words… The Mark is truly special and one of the great New York hotels. Their hospitality is remarkable as the staff always greets you with a smile and a hello, making it their utmost priority to show you a truly glamorous New York experience.
