Sant Francesc Hotel Singular, Mallorca

Best for… Sant Francesc Hotel Singular is a tastefully appointed 19th-century mansion with a rooftop pool in Palma’s old town, a 15-minute taxi from the airport.

The vibe… Lovely public areas with a perfect balance of historic and modern. A thoughtful renovation that makes it feel period-less, just cool. The Sant Francesc Hotel Singular’s rooftop is a highlight–incredible views overlooking the city and the cathedral (one of the most impressive I’ve visited), with a pool in the foreground.

The rooms… Our room 201 was well appointed and on the minimalist side—a grey, white and black color palette—a modern canopy bed, and bathroom with a tub and shower. I was particularly happy that they had actual light switches, not those electronic touch pads.

The food and drink… We had lunch on their rooftop terrace where we had probably one of the best club sandwiches ever, something like a grilled-cheese-meets-club. The bar downstairs is a great place to hang out before a late dinner. We chatted up our very knowledgeable bartender, who not only made a great martini, he dispensed lots of thoughts on the best places to eat paella. While the restaurant wasn’t open while we were there, friends have told us it’s really good—then again, you’re in the middle of town, so you have plenty of options super close by.

The wellness… We didn’t experience the spa because of time constraints and I was so disappointed, given that they use Anne Semonin products–one of my favorites, which I rarely see! For a small hotel, they have a relatively surprising amount of facial and massage offerings, and their gym has TRX and Technogym equipment.

Be sure to… Read their very in-depth guide book, which is so well designed and has great suggestions. Visit the incredible cathedral, which is just a five-minute walk from the hotel. We also rented a car through the hotel one morning and drove through Deia and Soller, just to see a bit of the island with the limited time we had.

Date of stay… October 2022
