In short… Palazzo Avino is a luxurious, family-owned 12th-century property overlooking the Amalfi coast with signature pink accents.
The vibe…. Situated in the medieval town of Ravello, Palazzo Avino enjoys views from 1,000 feet above the Amalfi coast and seamlessly combines 12th-century elegance with playful design touches. Overstuffed sofas and ornate antiques are mixed with contemporary art and a stunning glass atrium, which may even make you forget about the views for a moment. First opened by their father in 1997, the hotel is now run by sisters Mariella and Attilia Avino, who have leaned into a cool, feminine look with lots of personality—inspired, no doubt in part, by the property’s local moniker, the Pink Palace.
The rooms… I stayed in the Coral Deluxe suite, which was redone in 2020 as part of a capsule collection of seven rooms designed with Milan-based architect/designer Cristina Celestino. It had the Avino sisters’ modern, feminine vibe in spades. While it was much larger than the standard rooms with its own entrance hallway, living space and terrace, all the rooms benefit from Frette linens, their own bath products (made using lemons from the region) and stunning views of either the sea or the mountains.
The food… The more casual restaurant, Terrazzo Belvedere, may have some of the best views, and offers a selection of small bites, fresh seafood and pasta, and over 100 kinds of martinis (the espresso martini is so good it’s worth having even at 10pm). Rosselini’s is the Michelin-star rated offering, which shares the same jaw-dropping views as well as a sommelier’s table located in an ancient cave within the hotel’s wine cellar. Take the hotel’s shuttle to Clubhouse by the Sea, Palazzo Avino’s beach club in the town of Marmorata, just 15 mins from Ravello and try its restaurant’s wood-fired pizza.
The wellness… The spa is small but stunning and offers a hydropool, steam room, and Turkish sauna, as well as treatment rooms. The pool is surrounded by lemon trees and dotted with the hotel’s signature pink and white striped umbrellas. Be sure to check out the smaller pool on the property’s rooftop for a quiet place to relax and gaze at the Mediterranean.
Be sure to… Walk through the town of Ravello – its center is just 5 mins from the hotel – visit the ceramic workshops, tour the 13th-century Villa Rufalo and experience the “infinity terrace” at Villa Cimbrone just a few more minutes walk through the cobblestone streets.
