Hotel Massé, Paris

In short… A design-forward, minimalistic new opening in the 9th that feels both old and new, with mid-century touches and a timeless vibe.

The surroundings… On Rue Victor Massé in the 9th arrondissement, Hotel Massé is conveniently located on a quiet, residential street that essentially divides the neighborhood of Pigalle. West of Rue Victor Massé, a lovely row of shops and bars on Rue des Martyrs creates a great neighborhood-y vibe. To the north lies the louder, raunchier, party side of Pigalle, famous for its cabarets and history as Paris’ red-light district. This juxtaposition gives the area a super fresh and energetic feel, which makes retreat to the calm seclusion of the hotel all the more satisfying.

The backstory… The hotel opened in early 2026 following a 2-year renovation in the space of the former Hotel Victor Massé, designed by Juliette Gasparette and Julie Parenti—Festen alums (Hotel du Couvent, Chateau Voltaire, etc.) turned visionary architecture team.

The vibe… I was turned onto Hotel Massé after seeing it over and over on my Instagram, in posts by the likes of Monica Mendal and Diana Bartlett (Paris’ resident cool expats). I fell for its effortlessly chic warm minimalism—and it really held up! When you enter, there’s an elegant check-in table to the left, with sitting and dining rooms to the right. The decor leans midcentury modern with touches of Provençal antiques à la Le Colombe D’Or. There’s lots of brown and beige tones with hints of travertine and a large modernist painting, which you’ve probably seen on your IG feed if your algorithm is the same as mine.

The rooms… The rooms are quaint—since most of the buildings in this area were residential, the spaces are small but perfectly suited. The beds are comfortable and our bathroom was really spacious and even had a bathtub. The Typology bathroom amenities and Sjostrand coffee maker were perks (they also have lovely tea and coffee from Plaq in the room). The design was chic and functional, with wood paneling and touches of velvet. The art is minimal but thoughtful, and large Haussmannian windows look out onto the street and bring a lot of light into the room.

The food & drink… The hotel provides breakfast all day in their elegant common room, where you can welcome the day with an œuf à la coque while you sit allongé on their elegantly worn-in sofa, or at various sun-lit tables. The breakfast is very simple and very French, with a selection of eggs, pastries and bread.

The wellness… There’s no wellness program, but there is a small gym downstairs with all you need (rowing machine, treadmill, weights) and minimalist leather gym equipment.

Parting words… Hotel Massé is a chic and elegant new opening in the heart of Pigalle (it’s also a Costa Meno!), a great option for a younger traveler looking to stay in one of the city’s hipper neighborhoods.

Date of stay… January 4th, 2026
