Corinthia Rome

In short… A superbly well-appointed new opening with expansive rooms, marble bathrooms, walk-in closets, all with an address delivering guests enviable positioning in the city center.

The surroundings…  The Corinthia Rome sits opposite Palazzo Montecitorio, the Chamber of Deputies designed by Bernini. When walking out into the Roman morning, most of the sightseeing and restaurants one might seek amidst the historic center are less than a 15-minute walk in any given direction. This is particularly appealing for parents of young children as most destinations won’t require loading into a car. When approaching the door, staff are always on hand to carry strollers (or anything you may have with you) down the short staircase and out into the city, turning one’s child momentarily into a prince whisked through the air in their Bugaboo. It is the kind of staff where even the slightest moment of walking into the public corridors will be met with a helping hand almost immediately.

The backstory… The neoclassical building was formerly the headquarters of the Bank of Italy. Corinthia have spent three years attending to every detail, with some of the finishing touches and permitting arriving this month. Everything inside is immaculate and sparkling new, with the exception of the astounding Heritage Suite, which is adorned with original frescoes and preserved mosaic floors. In a city known for its patina and age, this hotel is as brand new as they come.

The vibe…  A calming and refined guest experience. The giant wooden entry doors are permanently open with sleek sliding glass parting to welcome the arriving guests. Once inside, a small staircase leads to a central courtyard with a fountain that serves as the restaurant and also a central pivot for the property. Both the bar and a seating area off the bar offer ample space for reading or taking a meeting. The hallways are always very quiet, with the elevators configured in pairs of two with only two to three rooms on each floor level. This means only one or two other rooms will share an elevator bank, leading to extremely rapid response times when seeking a ride down to the lobby, gym, or spa.

The rooms… A space where every need is anticipated. Heavy wooden doors open onto an entry room with a credenza for placing books or room keys, or perhaps a robe for a spa appointment the next morning. Beyond is a living room with plush carpeting and then the bedrooms with marble bathrooms beyond. This is a hotel where the stately bathrooms are the size of most New York hotel rooms. Both bathtubs and rainfall showers are in every suite. The walk in closet has lighting that illuminates and darkens with the opening and closing of the doors. Bedding is luxurious as are the robes. Rooms come with expansive mini-bar offerings as well as thoughtful details like shoe trees. A class of room one finds oneself wishing were their permanent residence. Two guest suites, the Heritage Suite of 210 and the top floor suite of 620, are quite enormous, with 620 offering a rooftop terrace with views to the Vatican.

The food & drink… We did not have dinner on property, but the breakfast offers both buffet stations as well as a la carte offerings, all with extremely high level of sourcing. The staff at breakfast is very, very diligent and kind. If traveling with a baby or toddler, the restaurant has high chairs on offer. One can sit either around the outdoor fountain or inside a beautiful room of green and wood. The sort of dining space where one overhears conversations with visiting US State Department types. Cocktails in the Ocra Bar are done at an extremely high level inside a sexy bar that could easily become a neighborhood obsession for locals. Around the corner from the hotel, not more than one minute walk, is an art-house cinema. It’s easy to imagine coming to the bar for a Last Word and then going to see a film or strolling over to Piazza Navona to see the sunset.

The wellness… Very discreet and private treatment rooms with top-quality services. According to my wife, exceptional facials are on offer. The Corinthia Spa contains two small pools as well as saunas and showers with what could be described as subterranean five-star European hotel relaxation areas. It’s a sort of standardized but pleasing aesthetic. The spa pool is probably not a visual showstopper but it’s all very inviting and very comfortable.

Is it kid-friendly? Extremely. Cribs are provided in room if needed, and we always use them to store things as we co-sleep with our son. The large living room areas provide ample space for kids to play. The staff are all very attentive to children and quick to lend a hand. As mentioned above, strollers are whisked up and down entry stairs at every arrival and departure. In fact, the staff is so aware, I’m not sure it would even be possible to descend the stairs with a stroller or bag without two staff members appearing at one’s side. When we left the hotel around six in the morning, I only made it two feet outside the elevator before a staff member came to take the bag from me.

Extra tip goes to… The training and management of the staff is superb, run by a very elegant general manager and team. Every interaction is pleasing and helpful and warm. They are on hand to help with every detail, whether that’s a hard to get reservation or a private tour of a cultural site. For us that was La Matriciana and Doria Pamphilj.

Be sure to… Ask to see the Heritage Suite. Likely the most impressed I’ve ever been by a hotel suite, with a possible rival at Passalacqua in Como. The central room not only is decorated with original frescoes and mosaic floors and stained glass windows, but also boasts a Steinway grand piano in the corner. Original ceilings are decorated with coins as the room used to serve as a bank, which likely helps remind its guests how expensive it has been to stay there (I didn’t ask the rate for this Heritage Suite, but I’d have to imagine it is eye-watering given the square footage of this space). The sort of lodgings appropriate for heads of state or Mick Jagger in the mood to throw a party.

Parting words… Just a wonderful place to use as a home when coming to visit Rome. A more modern, more refined option for those who prefer that avenue of hotel. Certainly expensive, but will leave guests with a sense of true value for the investment. Highly recommended for families, both for the gracefulness of the staff and the spaciousness of the quarters.

Date of stay… April 24-27, 2026
