Today’s newsletter is our Lisbon Black Book! After publishing our Portugal Travel Planner last spring, we received such great intel from all of our contributors that we decided we had to do a Lisbon-focused Black Book this fall. Head to the link in stories for tile-clad palaces and kiosk culture; tascas serving small plates, tiny artisan shops, and dare we say our favorite packaging in Europe! Plus chic beach clubs and great surf a short ride away. Today in stories @allipomillio is taking us around Abruzzo—the under-the-radar Italian region where you’ll find some of the best winemakers and producers. Located on central Italy’s Adriatic coast, Abruzzo is lined by the Apennine range and dotted with quaint mountain villages, bright blue lakes and sleepy seaside towns. Fall harvest season is here and today’s newsletter is dedicated to wine focused travel! @milenaberman goes deep on artisans and wine bars in Burgundy, @wordmover scoped out an emerging California wine region with a cool new place to stay, @allipomillo shared her favorite addresses in Italy’s under-the-radar wine region, plus @vintnersdaughter founder April Gargiulo on the hikes and hot springs that keep her feeling revitalized in Napa Valley, and a Piedmont road trip from @victoriagrier. In tomorrow’s newsletter, Abruzzo-based photographer @allipomilio fills us in on her favorite spots to dine and drink in the Italian region she calls home. In the heart of Italy, Abruzzo is a humble region rich with history, culture and culinary practices. For traditional food in the area of Loreto Aprutino, look no further than the family-run @ristorante_labilancia, where the menus change daily and warm brothy bowls of pastasciutta are scraped clean by farmers, wine producers, hunters and barons in disguise. Try the pasta alla mugnaia – a thick pencil-shaped pasta, rolled by hand, seasoned with garlic and sweet pepper sauce – it’s their specialty and the truest and most authentic version of this famous Abruzzese dish. Snapshots from harvest season at @emidiopepe in Abruzzo.
