In short… An elegant hotel in an 18th-century Andalusian palace, which couldn’t be more centrally located, with a full restaurant and bar—perfect for an overnight stay in Málaga.
The vibe… The first thing to know is that Palacio Solecio is in a pedestrian-only zone, so your taxi can only drop you about a three-minute walk from the hotel. The exterior of the palace is beautiful, and the public spaces maintain their historic details. The dining room has those rolling grass blinds that you seem to see only in Spain, and add such a nice look.
The rooms… We were with our daughter, so they gave us a room with a living area where they placed another bed. It had a view to the cathedral, which was lovely, but we thought the room itself had no historic character and were a little disappointed about that. However, it was totally comfortable.

The food and drink… We got in so late that the restaurant wasn’t serving, but we had a gin and tonic at the bar (solid), and they made an exception and served us some warm ham and cheese sandwiches in the room. Delicious. The breakfast buffet looked good enough—but we saw it at the tail end, and didn’t have anything but coffee. Friends say that the restaurant there is good.

Be sure to… Head to the Picasso Museum just a couple of minutes’ walk from the hotel, and then grab a delicious lunch at El Pimpi, which has been a favorite of Malagueños since 1971.
Date of stay… January 21, 2024
