Our Spain Hotels List

At the back of our Yolo Journal print issues, we always include a list of stays that are connected to the stories in its pages. For our Spain issue, we ran a pretty robust section of Spain hotels. But now that we have this “Short Listed” category on our new website, we decided to blow it out beyond the physical limitations of print. That meant going back to our notes and scouring the map (and squeezing our contributors) for an even more comprehensive list of interesting and amazing places to stay, from Galician monasteries to Andalusian farmhouses, wine hotels of La Rioja to Mallorcan mansions. We’ve updated our picks for our favorite hotels in Madrid and Barcelona as well! Across the board, we’ve flagged the most affordable ones as Costa Meno (CM)—meaning under ~300 Euros in peak season. (Amazingly, most paradores—the historic, state-owned hotels that are particular to Spain—are well within that limit.) Our list runs roughly clockwise from the northwest, though Valencia and Murcia didn’t inspire (m)any contributions, and we ran out of steam (and time) at Extremadura and the Canary Islands—we’ll get to them at some point!
