Our Favorite City Hotel Spas

We don’t often book an urban hotel for the spa, but an excellent one can be a game-changer—a sanctuary for a lymphatic drainage/sauna/cold plunge to get over jet lag, a facial to help your skin recover from airplane air, a hydrotherapy circuit that rinses off the stress of a conference or the grit of the streets. You don’t even need to be staying there—sometimes the best move is booking a treatment and giving yourself a half-day reset, whether on a trip or in your hometown. (We can’t wait to do a spa day at the Chelsea Hotel here in NYC, which got a ton of love from our contributors, and no matter where we stay in Hong Kong, we’ll be visiting Rosewood’s Asaya spa on our next trip.) So we sifted through our Guest Books, reached out to dozens of well-traveled friends (and, as usual, went down our rabbit hole) to compile our favorite urban hotel spas. The list is far from comprehensive, so we’d love to hear your favorites in the comments!

The Peninsula; Shibui at the Greenwich Hotel

The Aman – Spread out over three levels and 25k square feet, it has a beautiful long indoor pool, a spacious spa area with a hammam, sauna, and my favorite—a cold-bucket shower. I had a transporting, two-hour Aman New York Signature treatment, which was designed for this hotel and is only available here. Lots of cranial sacral as well as deep tissue—and I loved how it began with a full-body scrub. – Yolanda
