The Best Mules

mules-shoes

Years ago, I discovered the most beautiful/comfortable black satin mules made by a brand I’d never heard of, Le Monde Beryl, in the gift shop at Il Pellicano. I could wear them with literally everything—and most importantly, they were dressy enough to wear to a formal event, but they weren’t heels. I’ve since bought another pair (given how much I wear them, and that they are satin, two pairs in nine years is pretty good track record!), and now they are ready to be retired. Sadly, they don’t make this style anymore, so I have started to do my research to find my new ride or die. Below are some contenders:

1. Ferragamo – Double-bow Slip-on

2. Larroude – Blair Flat in Velvet

3. The Row – Hugo Slide in Suede

4. Gucci – Princetown Leather Slipper

5. Veronica Beard – Catherine Leather Mule

6. Ann Mashburn – Joy Mule in Emerald Velvet

7. Saint Laurent – Lido Velvet Slip-on

8. Manolo Blahnik – Lambskin Bow Ballerina Flat

9. Repetto – Camille Mules

10. Madewell – April Ballet Flat

11. Bougeotte – Suede Shearling Penny Loafer

I recently found a beautiful pair of dark midnight blue mules by the Italian brand Clorinda Antinori at their store on King Street in Charleston. They’re now my go-to “dressy” shoes as they pack so easily!
