Years ago, a friend of mine, the artist/writer Lisa Borgnes Giramonti, asked if she and her dear friend Belinda could come in for a meeting at Traveler. They were both ambitious explorers who’d taken a big trip together every year every since they’d met some 20 years earlier. Their approach is to pick a place together—usually something adventurous, like India or Kazakhstan—and research the heck out of it, reading the same books, studying history and going super deep on the destination for months before the journey. I was fascinated and inspired. I had no idea, until we met in person, that Lisa’s friend was that Belinda from the Go-Go’s, my favorite band in the ‘80s, nor that she had been living in Bangkok for years.
