In short… Deetjen’s Inn is an old-school Big Sur institution filled with character
The vibe… The first time I visited was 8 years ago, on a road trip from L.A. to Big Sur. There’s something so special about Deetjen’s—it has such a soul. It doesn’t have a view, it sits in the shady part of the forest across the road from the beach, and the ladies who run it aren’t particularly pleasant. But everything is so right about it.
The rooms… I love how real this place is: the creaking floors, the shared bathrooms (some rooms have their own, but we didn’t), the people who come here.
The wellness… It has a major energy pull—there’s something in the water and the air, some kind of undercurrent, which attracts a certain kind of person.
Parting words… It is truly my favorite place in the world. The Deetjen Inn whips every 5-star hotel’s ass hands down, no comparison.
