Le Pigalle, Paris

In short… A cool, energetic hotel on a side street in Pigalle that feels like your petit pied à terre in Paris meets happening bar meets artist studio.

The surroundings… Just off Rue de Pigalle in the heart of its namesake neighborhood. While the area is busy and one of the most popular for nightlife, the property still feels insulated from it all. From the outside, the building looks like an apartment building with a restaurant on the first floor—which is where you enter.

The vibe… Le Pigalle feels young, unstuffy, and very relaxed. It’s the type of place where you won’t get a judgmental glance if you stumble in at 2am from Chambre 01 next door, and if you decide to head down for breakfast at 12pm. All of the staff are young and cool. When you arrive there’s no formal check-in desk or concierge, and the decor feels like an artist’s living room—tasteful photography, vintage movie posters, and art books scattered about. The lift is tiny—very Parisian—with a leopard carpet, and the whole building maintains an interesting mix between its 19th century Hausmannien roots and the neighborhood’s gritty bohemian vibe. Being small, there aren’t many amenities—gym, wellness, etc.—so it’s ideal for a younger visitor who will be exploring the city during the day and not relying on greater comforts a larger hotel would provide. At night, the restaurant/bar downstairs comes alive with locals dining to music (don’t worry, you won’t hear it!)—a buzzy vibe. Le Pigalle’s footprint has also expanded to a coffee shop next door and a newly opened cocktail bar.

The rooms… My room was on the top floor with an adorable jewelbox balcony—the perfect spot for a morning coffee, or an evening aperitif. I especially loved having the doors open in the morning, listening to the city wake up and the buzz of the neighborhood below. The room itself was small but comfortable, with walls adorned in art possibly thrifted from Clignancourt or an indie photographer who lives next door—and a shower/sink combo and separate WC, like a Parisian pied à terre. All of the amenities are Le Labo, which is always a treat, with the cutest packaged bar of soap. What it lacks in closet space it makes up for in sweetness.

The food & drink… While I didn’t eat on property, the restaurant downstairs serves an all-day menu with seasonal French dishes, and every time I walked in or out, it was packed with guests and locals. We did stop in for a drink at the newly opened cocktail bar, Chambre 01, two doors down. It was a fun, hip vibe that continued into the early hours all week.

Café Pigalle

Be sure to… Have a coffee at Café Pigalle, just next door. It’s super cute inside with wooden wall panelling, and they make a seriously good flat white. There are a few tables in the back where you can sit and work, and also a lot of light.
