In short… Hotel Park Ave is a great option if you are on a business trip and would like to stay close to midtown. This hotel is quietly chic, not overly fussy or pretentious.
The surroundings… The hotel is situated in a part of NoMad/Murray Hill that feels pleasingly residential and quiet. With an entrance right on Park Ave, it was super easy to get a taxi both uptown and downtown to my meetings.
The backstory… Formerly the Mondrian Park Avenue hotel, it was acquired by the Lore Group (the Pulitzer in Amsterdam, Riggs in DC) and redesigned by creative director, Jacu Strauss, reopening in summer of ‘25.
The vibe… The lobby feels less like a traditional hotel and more like stepping into a design-savvy New York living room—clean, bright, and polished, with marble flooring, contemporary sculptural furniture and lighting in bold colors. Modern artwork—large abstract paintings (in the style of Motherwell, Balla or Kandinsky), and cubist African-inspired sculptures—are displayed throughout the hotel.
The rooms… Very comfortable and decently sized. My room had a balcony overlooking 30th street with views looking both east and west over an array of NYC skyscrapers. The room got a lot of sun, thanks to the large windows in the bedroom and the bathroom! Here too, small artworks were present everywhere. But the most lovely surprise were two books on the nightstand by the bed. I also loved the beautifully scented bath products by D.S. & Durga.
The food & drink… The bar and restaurant weren’t yet open when I stayed, but in October they opened Seed Library, the first NY outpost of the popular London bar from award-winning bartender Ryan Chetiyawardana, with its own speakeasy-style entrance. And on the ground floor, Park Rose is an all-day restaurant serving a new American-Italian menu.
The wellness… Located on the 2nd floor, the gym is small, but gets a nice bit of natural light, which can be very helpful for motivation! The hotel also offers bikes to explore the city if you are feeling bold!
