The Corfu List

Our friends Erin Ryder and Courtney Fasciano are the co-founders of Cesta Collective, a mission-based brand of basket bags that are handwoven by a women’s collective in Rwanda and finished in Italy. They did a packing story for us a couple of weeks back, in which they shared their ultra-obsessive strategies for rolling, folding, and nesting bags inside bags inside bags. When we found out that they shoot their look book on Corfu every year, we wanted to get their list, which we imagined would be equally meticulous! So here’s Part 2 with Erin and Courtney, in which they share some places they love in their favorite shoulder season destination. —Team Yolo

We love Corfu for its effortless charm and unpretentious vibe. Floating off Greece’s northwest coast in the Ionian Sea, the island is a mosaic of lush landscapes, quaint villages, and crystal-clear waters with excellent food and views for days. We tend to shoot our lookbook here at the end of the summer, when the busy season has slowed down. We always stay at the villa of our good friend Rahdy Elwan in Kassiopi—Rahdy is a London-based (and very talented) architect who has an amazing portfolio across the island.

And so Kassiopi is the area that we know and love best. On the northern coast of the island, Kassiopi was historically a fishing village that has retained its charm while evolving into a quaint town centered around a picturesque harbor, with the remnants of a Byzantine castle standing sentinel over the scene. Waterfront tavernas serving fresh seafood create a vibrant atmosphere, while pebble beaches lapped by serene turquoise water make for the perfect setting to unwind. On a clear day, you can see Albania’s coastline.

Corfu is pretty big and there are many hidden gems, so if you want to explore it all, you’re going to want to rent a car. We rent from Sixt right at the airport outside of Corfu Town, though there are many other options as well. Be warned: the roads are narrow and very winding. That said, if you’re not feeling so adventurous, Corfu makes for a very lovely place to do nothing but eat delicious food, drink Greek wines, and swim in the sea.
